Never miss our emails by following these steps
We hope you're enjoying the Market Insights emails from our team. If you'd prefer our emails to always land in your main inbox, follow the steps below.
For Gmail:
- If you're using the Gmail mobile app, open our latest email and click the three dots in the top right corner, then click 'Move To', and 'Primary'.
- If you're using Gmail on desktop, go to your inbox feed and drag our latest email into the 'Primary' folder.
For Outlook:
- If you're using the Outlook mobile app, and our latest email landed in the 'Other' folder, open the email, then click 'More' in the bottom right corner, then click 'Move to Focused', and 'Always Move'.
- If you're using Outlook on desktop, select the 'Junk' dropdown in the Home tab, then click 'Junk Email Options'. In the pop-up window, select the 'Safe Senders' tab, click 'Add', and enter our email address (ian.barker@bfygroup.co.uk).
For Apple Mail:
- If you're using the Apple Mail mobile app, open our latest email, click our name or email address in the message header, then click 'Add to VIP'.
- If you're using Apple Mail on desktop, open our latest email, then click the star that appears next to our name in the message header.

Domestic energy suppliers faced £1.6 billon cash coverage deficit in June 2024
By combining Ofgem's latest data on customer credit with their recent market debt figures, BFY Group analysis shows domestic suppliers faced a £1.6bn shortfall to the target cash reserve in June 2024 - an increase of £1.4bn from 12 months before.
Domestic Energy Debt Reaches Record £3.7 Billion
Energy debt hits a new peak of £3.7 billion as of Q2 2024 as Average debt per customer rises to a record £1,094. Energy debt has continued to increase by 40% since Q2 2023 while average annualised customer bills have levelled out.
Price Cap rising to £1,717 in Oct-24, savings available to those who fix now
Ofgem have today (23 Aug) announced a 10% increase (£149) in the headline Price Cap, which will rise to £1,717 for a typical Direct Debit (DD) customer from October. It’s the highest level since Q1-24, and follows two consecutive falls.
